"I can't do what you do..."

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

Tonight I am speaking at a small, intimate event for my team. The event is just a short walk down the street at a cool little business space that I have been wanting to check out for a while now. I'm super excited and not a bit nervous to share. As a matter of fact, I get excited at the thought of getting the chance to share my results and my passion for this business that empowers so many to find a Plan B, earn extra income and find a community of incredible people to work with.

I would say that a majority of people do not share my sentiment for public speaking, live videos and teaching. When I am sharing my business with someone and they say, "Well I can't do what you do. I'm not a salesperson. I'm not outgoing. I'm not like you," my immediate response is "GOOD!" Because we all bring different strengths to the world and life would just not work if we were all the same! And if you thought that being my current "me" was easy you are wrong. It took years of risk, education, trial and error and practice.

I watched my friend Carrie work her business for a year before I joined her. Every morning she would post on Facebook at the same time and I remember thinking, "Wow, that is awesome that she is showing us that she is serious about her business and that she is not backing out." It never occurred to me to use the products or join her in business until she ASKED. Even then I put her off for a while. It wasn't my time I suppose.

Carrie and I are very different. She is a highly professional instructional coach with a more serious personality. She is definitely smarter that I am and that is a part of my reason for joining her. I knew that if SHE realized the awesomeness of Rodan+Fields that it MUST be good! Carrie doesn't share a ton on social media like I do, she is more private. And yet, she has grown a THRIVING business and in the top 2% of our company!. Do I try to be like her? Uh no. It would be silly if I tried and everyone would see right through it. I believe in authenticity. People want to work with and buy from someone they can trust. If you are not being yourself are you trustworthy?

I could take a look at our team and tell you about the many different personalities and how using their own strengths is exactly what has helped them build their business. Their vision, determination, consistency, confidence and willingness to step out of their comfort zone is what makes them successful. Success isn't about a level or paycheck although it sure is tempting to think it is. Success for me is any time I get ot help someone solve a skin problem or a money problem or help them find a community where they will be supported and encouraged.

We all have a different reason for starting our own R+F business. One thing we all have in common is the desire for more TIME! If you say you are too busy, then what are you doing to change that? I was too busy when I joined, but I knew I wanted that to END. I wanted to spend more time with my husband, with my family and more time trying new things in my eight hour day rather than teaching the same class six times in a row. So I joined in the middle of being the high school soccer manager, going to a gazillion soccer games all over town, working full time, exercising as often as possible, running my EF travel business, and doing all of the household responsibilities. I work my business in the most unusual places...from my bed, on the couch, at the dining room table, in the drive thru, while my husband is driving us somewhere. I work anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour a day depending on my schedule and how I choose to plan. After all , it is MY business.

Do you believe in yourself enough to make that happen for you? Can you set aside your preconceived ideas in search of what you really want out of life? No assumptions, no judgment, just open to learn? I hope so, because when we focus on our strengths we are our authentic and best selves. Fulfillment comes when you know you are helping others. Be brave, be focused, push through and find the lessons that make you proud of your journey.

If you are curious just what it is that I do......
